About Us
PROINFANCIA was founded in 2001 by Tanya Medrano, who served as Executive Director until 2006, whe she became the organization's International Advisor. Since 2006 PROINFANCIA's Executive Director has been Dr. Josefina Chavez. PROINFANCIA is supported by a Board of Directors comprised by seven members.
PROINFANCIA's administrative offices are located in the capital city of Santo Domingo. It staff size varies depending on the level of funding available. However, basic program staff includes a physician, a psychologist, a community outreach coordinator and an education coordinator. The organization also has a network of community volunteers in each of its program sites that allows the continuity of services and support to the children.
PROINFANCIA is a member of the Dominican Coalition of NGOs working with Children and the Dominican Coalition of AIDS NGOs. Membership in these Coalitions allows PROINFANCIA to advocate for the rights of vulnerable children and influence policies on their behalf.
